Upon their request, Trustee Dana Downey and MLA Rajan Sawhney visited Eric Harvie School on Friday April 5th for a brief tour of the school and also had an opportunity to see all of the incredible learning that takes place . Both Trustee Dana and MLA Rajan were able to visit each classroom and see the wonderful learning first hand.

2024-2025-School Year

As we prepare for the next school year and look at class configurations and also adding Grade 5, it would be helpful to know if your child will not be returning to Eric Harvie School for the next school year.

Unless we hear otherwise we will assume your child will be attending EHS for the  School next school year.

Please email Josie Cesario at jccesario@cbe.ab.ca  if your child(ren) will not be returning next year. We appreciate your assistance with our planning.

Thinking About the Weather

As we begin to finally (hopefully) experience a Calgary spring, we anticipate a muddy and wet field. We have spoken to all of our classes about avoiding mud puddles and finding an appropriate place to play. As children often do, they still manage to find themselves occasionally covered in mud. We also have many wet feet in the afternoon! If you could please ensure your child has appropriate outdoor footwear (or an extra pair of socks), it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Parent Evening April 17th

Eric Harvie School, Tuscany School and Twelve Mile Coulee School are hosting a parents night on Wednesday, April 17th at 7:00pm at TMC School.

We will be interviewing media dietician Andrea Holwegner for an action packed session for busy parents focussed on nourishing healthy eating habits for kids and teens.

Ask questions about picky eating, what to feed kids before or after sports, and the best after school snacks. Learn simple strategies to plan and prep meals and snacks that support well-being, physical and mental health.

Please save your spot for this event by using the sign-up genius link below. (Please note, this event is adults only and cannot accommodate children).

Precautions for the Solar Eclipse on Monday April 8

On Monday, April 8 a partial solar eclipse will be visible in Calgary. The solar event will begin just before noon and conclude by 2:00 p.m., with the maximum coverage occurring at 12:43 p.m.

We know that this provides a unique learning experience for students and staff in our schools; however, there can be serious impacts to vision as a result of viewing the eclipse in an unsafe manner.

During this partial solar eclipse on Monday, we would like to invite all Grade 1-4 students to remain at school during the lunch break. Please send a lunch with your child. Students will be staying indoors during the lunch hour recess.

If you decide that your child will walk home for lunch on Monday, please discuss with your child not to look at the sun to protect his/her eyes from damage by the solar eclipse.

During a solar eclipse, looking directly at the sun is dangerous. Safe viewing of the eclipse requires wearing specialized glasses or watching through a telescope or solar binoculars that have specialized lenses and should only be performed under the direction of a professional.

For more safety information can be found on the NASA website or from the Canadian Association of Optometrists.
