Student Led Conference March 21 and 22

Eric Harvie School will be hosting our student-led conferences the evening of Thursday March 21 and the morning of Friday March 22. This round of conferences will be student-led and will provide each learner a chance to show what they have learned as well as provide time for families to engage with the classroom teachers. Families will be asked to sign up for a 30 minute time block to allow for ample time for students to show-off their learning, and as well to provide time for conversation.

More information will be provided shortly!

A huge thank you to our swimming volunteers! Swimming requires many adults to make it run smoothly and we greatly appreciate all of you who came out to support.

EHS School Council Updates

Once each month, the “Parent Council” - officially called the EHS School Council and EHS Enhancement Society - gathers at the school for their meeting. These meetings are open to every parent or guardian at Eric Harvie School to attend and the focus is on building new ways to make the EHS learning community even better.

My favourite part of these meetings is the opportunity to have dialogue with parents about their experiences as parents at our school and sharing some of the “behind the scenes” planning and thinking that goes into the educational decisions that we make. We are also going to try out having a focused topic of conversation each month that we see that can support parents throughout our school community.

As a busy parent of three children myself, I also recognize that it is a challenge to be able to attend these meetings. The EHS School Council Chair, Amanda Hang, and myself both endeavour to make the meetings as efficient as possible, and we have continued to offer an online option if you would prefer to take part in the meeting while you are washing the dishes at home too.

We are also very fortunate to have some parents that step up to take on Executive roles within the school council. This does take a bit more of a time commitment than just being a part of the meetings, but these roles are an integral part of the benefits that the whole school community gets from the council. Through the funding benefits of fundraising events, or in the community connection benefits of family dances or other events, these roles have a huge impact on key parts of learning at Eric Harvie School.

The EHS School Council is looking to fill the following positions for next school year:

  • Treasurer
  • Secretary
  • Special Events Coordinator

We warmly invite you to come join the next School Council meeting on Wednesday, March 13 at 6:30 pm. If you may have some interest in taking on one of the roles above, please contact Amanda Hang at ehscouncilchair@gmail.com for more information.

Thank you in advance for connecting with the School Council to help build our learning community!

We Are Growing at Eric Harvie!

We have begun to plant and grow many things in our Eric Harvie indoor greenhouses and planting boxes. We have planted wildflowers, a few vegetables and some traditional tobacco! We are very much looking forward to watching all of this work grow into some beautiful things. If you have leftover seeds, dirt or even a few pots that you would like to donate to this growing cause, please drop them off at the office. Thank you!
