Poppies will be available to guests at the door for a donation. Students will be given a sticker poppy in their classrooms. Families are also invited to bring a food donation for the Veterans Food Bank. Students can bring their items the day of the assembly and a bin will be set up in the Hub.

Digital Citizenship
This year at Eric Harvie School, we will be focusing on developing the skills to use digital tools to learn, express creativity and collaborate with others. This will include a focus on robotics, coding and beginning programming, which also connects to the new Alberta science curriculum and learning outcomes of procedural thinking.
As our learners increase the number of opportunities for learning with technology at school, there are also lessons around safe, respectful use of technology that we also teach. Attached to this message is a copy of our Admirable Use Policy at EHS. We will also be sending this home with our grade 1 - 4 learners for their parents to read through it together with them. We appreciate your support in developing young learners that use technology in a safe, respectful and responsible way.
Peace Ambassadors - Jacket Racket Drive!
The Eric Harvie Peace Ambassadors will soon be starting our annual drive for Jacket Racket. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to help other children here in our city, by donating warm outerwear that they no longer need. It is a valuable experience for our students and reinforces our school’s commitment to peace and citizenship education. Our Peace Ambassadors will collect items from classrooms each morning.
This year’s Jacket Racket collection will run beginning on Monday, November 2 and ending on Friday, November 17th.
Jacket Racket is a volunteer organization that collects and provides warm coats, snow pants, hats, scarves, and mittens to students who need them. Every year from mid-October to late November, Jacket Racket volunteers collect approximately 4,000 gently used coats, which are sorted and distributed to children in need through the Calgary Board of Education and the Calgary Catholic School District. Many Jacket Racket volunteers are former CBE teachers who have seen shivering students come and go from school wearing little to no protection from the cold. There has been an increasing demand for warm clothing in past years. Despite this growing demand, Jacket Racket has been successful in filling it with the help of the generosity of people like our EHS families.
HOW CAN I HELP?
Please take some time with your children to go through their winter items. It is that time of year when we all realize that hats, mittens, boots, snow pants, and coats have been outgrown! Please give them a wash and put them in a bag. Please list the items and sizes on the outside of the bag. We also accept adult sizes as many older students need help to stay warm in the winter as well! Toddler items will also be accepted for younger siblings.
Thank you for your support of our project!

Past Updates
Support with using the washrooms at EHS
We have approached the CBE Facilities team about an ongoing concern at Eric Harvie School - students being afraid of the sound of our toilets flushing. This has been an issue since EHS opened, however, the problem has become especially acute the past few weeks as the number of toilets left unflushed poses a health concern, and we have had a high number of younger learners that are unwilling to go to the washroom resulting in multiple accidents in the classroom.
A CBE plumber came and assessed the situation this week and some minor adjustments were made to the whole system to try and make the flushing sound a bit quieter. In addition to making plumbing adjustments, we also will need to support the anxiety element of this situation. We kindly ask families to have a conversation about using the washroom at school with your child. We will also make a suggestion again closer to our school conferences, as it may be helpful to take your child to the washroom at our school to help guide and encourage them to use the toilet correctly. While the school does take on support with learning many life skills, the sensitive nature of using toilets strongly relies on parents helping their children to be able to handle using the washroom in a wide range of situations.
Thank you in advance for your support!
