School Spirit Days!

We know many families celebrate a range of holidays this time of year, and we enjoy being able to enjoy this time of year and opportunities to learn about different cultures and their celebrations. We do try to keep our focus on learning throughout the next two weeks, and including some fun school spirit days can be a way to keep all our spirits bright!

Friday December 15 -  will be the kick off of our school spirit days with Festive Sweater/Shirt day.  Don’t have a festive shirt… don’t worry you can just wear red and green.  The next week will look as follows:

Monday Dec.18 – Do You Wanna Build a Snowman (dress like a snowman or in silvery/blue colours)

Tuesday Dec.19 - Mad about Plaid

Wednesday Dec.20 - Tree Topper Day (festive hair or hats) + Christmas Carols in the gym in the afternoon

Thursday Dec.21 - Wear your favourite pjs

Friday Dec.22 - dress like your favourite holiday character

Families Helping Families

We will be continuing an Eric Harvie School tradition again this year through an initiative we call EHS Families Helping Families. Each year as Winter Break approaches, we sponsor a few families from Colonel J. Fred Scott School to help provide some support during the holiday season. Each classroom will take on a family to support, and we ask those families that feel they are in a position to be able to help out a family that is needing some support at this time to donate new holiday gifts, personal items, or even a gift card to help make this time of year a bit easier. We will be sharing complete details early next week after we have further information about the families in need, such as the ages of children in the family. Your support of families that are needing a bit of a boost will be greatly appreciated!

Please ensure donations are in to the school by Friday, December 15 so we can prepare for the delivery.

Thank you!

We would like to say a huge thank you to our choir participants, families and especially parent volunteers for two great performances this week! It is great to have opportunities to perform and learn music in different ways - and we are of course very thankful to Mrs. Coulson for organizing and leading this opportunity!

On behalf of the EHS staff, we would like to extend a sincere thank you to the EHS School Council for all your support of our staff the past few weeks. Your generous support of a meal on the evening of conferences helped to make a long day a bit easier for all of us. We also greatly appreciate the considerate little ways you keep us going, including the “tea wreath” - a caffeinated teacher is generally a happy teacher! Thank you again!

Lost and Found

Our lost and found is reaching all time high levels! We are 99% sure that these items came from children that attend our school, so our goal is to get them back to families as much as possible. We placed the items out for families to look for items during conferences and during the choir performances the past couple weeks. We will keep these items at the school until December 21 and then will be donating unclaimed items to a charity. Please note that any items that are lost between now and the winter break we will hold on to in to January to attempt to connect owners to lost mittens as much as possible too!

Reminder: School Parking & Pedestrians

As we shared in past Connect messages, the City of Calgary has made a change in the parking areas around many schools. This is in connection with upcoming changes to provincial bussing regulations and an increase in the number of buses that will come to Eric Harvie School.

The diagram below shows these designated areas:

RED = Bus Zone - no stopping during the school day (except designated buses)

YELLOW = “Kiss and Drop” zone - no leaving your vehicle unattended, 10 min. Max during drop off and pick up times

GREEN = Parking allowed zones

PURPLE = Please be extremely careful at this intersection and ensure pedestrians are able to cross safely
