Important Update:
EHS Traffic, Pedestrians & Parking
The traffic and pedestrian safety during drop off and pick up times can be very challenging at Eric Harvie School, much like many other school neighborhoods. As a school community, we are relying on drivers to make good decisions and follow the established traffic rules and controls (Can you identify where the picture in this article was taken?).
We have had a significant change in the parking regulations around Eric Harvie School this past week. This change was targeted to happen when we get an increase in the amount of buses to our school - which could be a considerable number next school year. These changes are:
The area in front of the school (Tuscany Drive) is almost exclusively a no stopping zone - basically a large bus zone - during the day.
The area close to the playground on the more major road (Tuscany Way) is now designated as a drop off area, where there is no stopping during busy times.
We will explore temporarily changing the signs along Tuscany Drive (in front of the school) during the time when we only have one bus coming to our school - this is too big of a bus zone for one bus. However, we please ask that all drivers respect the signs that are in place as these would be enforceable by police (as we learned this week!)
Last year, our teachers took time to teach proper crosswalk techniques to all our learners. In the weeks ahead, we will be looking to share further guidance from police, CBE or city of Calgary representatives that can help us to ensure everyone has safe travels to and from school each day. Our School Council is also actively looking to find helpful solutions that ensure that our entire community understands how they can support safe walking to school.
EHS School Enhancement Growing Smiles Fundraiser
Eric Harvie School Enhancement Society is excited to offer winter flowers, poinsettias, and wreaths through our Growing Smiles Fundraiser!
This fundraiser will benefit the school by purchasing educational resources and experiences, including things such as the E-Motion Dance Residency and subsidizing swimming lesson costs for all learners!
Orders can be placed online through this link: https://ericharvie.growingsmilesfundraising.com/home
Orders are due by Monday, November 6th at 12pm
Pick up will be at the school on November 29th (from 3:30 - 6:30pm) and November 30th (8:30 - 9:30am).
And bring your bottles by the school at pick up, as we'll have a bottle drive trailer on site on November 29th from 2-7pm!

Honouring Remembrance Day at EHS
The Cox/Paterson grade 3/4 classes will be presenting this year's Remembrance Day peace assembly on Wednesday, November 8th at 10:15 AM. All members of the EHS school community are invited to attend if they wish.
These classes are also looking for any community members that have stories of hope connecting to war and conflict that they would like to share with our learners. If you have stories that you would like to share, or know family members that may even want to share a story at our assembly, it would be greatly appreciated. If you have other connections that may help us to have a great event for learning and reflecting, such as bagpipe players, please reach out to Mrs. Natalie Cox at njcox@cbe.ab.ca
Thank you for your support!
Recognizing Halloween at EHS
Halloween is often an exciting time for young children that take part in dressing up and trick or treating in the evening. It can be a fun opportunity for children to share a bit of their personality to wear their costumes at school, however, at the risk of sounding like the “fun police”, our primary purpose is learning.
On Tuesday, October 31, if your child is invited to wear their costume at school for the morning. (PM Kindergarten children are obviously welcome to wear their costume during their regular classes) We please ask that all costumes are appropriate for an elementary school setting, including no masks in order for learners to learn and for us to see faces, and no violent themed costumes, accessories or weapons. Children will need to be able to take off their costumes at lunchtime and store them with their school bag.
We also ask that you do not send any treats to school for handing out to other students, and please ask in the school days after Halloween you please limit the number of treats that are sent to school - increased sugar does not usually equal optimal school working conditions!
Thank you in advance for your support and we hope all families that head out trick or treating have a safe, fun time!
Upcoming Days of Significance - CBE Days of Significance Calendar
We would like to share the link above with parents that we have also shared with teachers. It provides a comprehensive list of many different days of significance. As a public school, we look to support and recognize different cultures and groups.
EHS School Enhancement Society Casino Fundraiser
A message from our delightful EHS School Enhancement Society:
We are seeking 36 volunteers for our upcoming casino fundraiser event on December 9 and 10, 2023 at Pure Casino (near the airport). Our last casino event raised $67,000 for Eric Harvie School and supported the purchase of new technology, sports, art, science, and literacy materials as well as numerous special events and learning opportunities for students.
Please come join other parents for a fun night of volunteering. Volunteers get free food and drinks (non-alcoholic) during their shift and it is a great way to meet other parents at the school. No experience is required and you will be provided training when you show up for your shift. To sign up, use the link below:
