Bussing Students

In an effort to not delay the buses after school, please ensure to call or email Josie at the office at 403-817-3532 or jccesario@cbe.ab.ca  if your child will not be going home on the bus. The bus monitor will be ensuring that all students who were in attendance that day, will be on the bus going home. Thank you.

Short Week…Great Start!

Thank you for all your support in helping Eric Harvie School to have a great start to the year! A “two day week” was an interesting twist in the calendar for this year, however, our Teachers helped to get to know a bit more about their learners and to help get some routines started.

Morning Kindergarten families will receive an email from the teachers on Tuesday in regards to which teacher will be their primary contact. Thank you to these parents for making the staggered entry days a great success!

Roots of Empathy - Call for Babies and Volunteers

Eric Harvie has been a Roots of Empathy school since we began and community support made that possible. Families have volunteered their time and their babies to be part of this incredible program and parent council has provided funding. Our Roots of Empathy team needs the friends of EHS to spread the word to expecting parents and prospective volunteers.

We may be unable to offer the program to as many classes as we normally have this year as we have a very limited number of volunteer instructors to lead our program. If you might know someone that is interested in taking the training for this role, please let us know at the school office.

The program is best suited to babies who are four months old by September 1 but we're happy to talk with any interested families. Please email chashworth@cbe.ab.ca if you would like more information or have any questions. Thank you!

Past Updates

Start of Year Forms

Most of the yearly start of the year forms moved to an online format through your MyCBE account. These include the Demographic Verification form that helps ensure we are able to contact you in an emergency, and the annual authorization forms that pertain to photos around the school. Please take a moment to complete these forms in the coming days to ensure we have this information.

We will be sending a couple of paper copy forms home at the start of the year that are not a part of these system wide forms. These will include forms for walking distance learning activities near the school.

If you require any assistance with making your MyCBE account, please visit this website: https://www.cbe.ab.ca/support/...

Lunchroom Supervision Program

The lunchroom supervision program at all CBE schools is an optional program. For more information about this program, please see the following link: HERE

  • Learners will eat for about 25 minutes and then go outside for another 25 minutes for an active play time.
  • Please send your child with a healthy, reasonably sized lunch, water bottle only (no milk or juice please).
  • Please send a recess snack that can be eaten while learners are outside on their morning recess break and held in one hand.
  • You are welcome to send more than one snack – if a student gets hungry in the afternoon, for example, we will accommodate the eating of an extra snack to sustain learning.

Outdoor Body Break Time

Each teaching team will be taking a snack and body break time when it best fits their classes schedule. Learners are encouraged to take one snack outside with them that is handheld. We will be going outside every possible day, so please send your child to school with clothing that may be layered to adjust to the weather conditions.

Dropping Off Late Students & Picking Students Up Early from School

If your child is late for school, please bring them to the front door and ring the bell – we will note their arrival and make sure they get to their class safely. If you are picking your child up early for an appointment, please notify the office as early as possible in the day and we will do our best to have your child ready at the office. If you ring the bell and let us know you have arrived, we will send them safely out to meet you.

Reporting Student Absences/Illnesses

Please call the office attendance line at 403-817-3532 ext. 1 or email our Administraive Assistant, Josie Cesario, at jccesario@cbe.ab.ca as soon as possible in the morning when you know your child will be absent or late. You will receive an automated phone call for any absences that we record as not “unexcused” or if we do not have information about the absence at that time.

Changes in Communication Between Teachers & Families

We will be slightly shifting our focus in our communication to families about the learning that occurs this year. In past years, teachers have often spent many hours gathering many photos and writing long descriptions of the learning that was occurring through our classroom blogs. This sharing of the classroom learning is helpful context for families, however, we would like to shift our focus to spending more of this time sharing information about your child’s specific learning progress. We will share more about this transition as the year progress, however the key changes you will see right away are:

  • Classroom Blogs will be a weekly posting with a few pictures of learning in progress and information about the concepts or learning intentions of focus.
  • Important, timely information will be sent by SchoolMessenger as a direct email to you – this may include notices about field trip forms or requests for classroom volunteers.
  • We will share more information about how we will share the progress of learning in action in the weeks ahead. Assessment is a focus across the CBE in the year ahead, and this will also be true at Eric Harvie School.

We are truly looking forward to classes getting started and to continuing to build a peaceful community of learners together in the year ahead. Please feel free to contact the main office if you have other questions that we can support you with.
