Big Box Fundraiser Update

This week the Big Box Cards orders have come home with your children. We would like to thank everyone who participated in raising over $1,700.00 for the Eric Harvie Student Enhancement Society. A big congratulations to Mrs. Palmers' grade 1 class, they have won the pizza party, which will happen soon. Congratulations are as well in order for the four winners of the $25.00 gift cards.  They were; Vivian R., Beau B., Daisy S., and Wesley M., Congratulations!

Thank you from the Eric Harvie Student Enhancement Society.

Cold weather updates

  • This week the weather definitely took a turn to be very cold. Please ensure your child is ready to be outdoors each day that they come to school. We do try to be outside most days at Eric Harvie School - only days with temperatures with wind chill below -20 degrees are days we stay indoors.
  • When learners are very well dressed for the weather, we do also offer an optional “Polar Bear Club” on days that are between -20 and -24 with the windchill. We observe the local conditions outside and allow those learners that are prepared to go outside and play in the cold to have a shorter outdoor break. As Albertans…learning to enjoy the cold is a life skill!
  • As the amount of daylight is so short, if you are driving for pick-up and drop off, please ensure you are observing all rules of the road and the parking area designations (as always!)

Families Helping Families

A long standing tradition at Eric Harvie School is our Families Helping Families campaign, where we support families in need at holiday time from Colonel J Fred Scott School in the Whitehorn neighborhood in Calgary. This tradition originated from past EHS staff members that previously worked in that school taking initiative to support families in need around the holiday time.

We are in the final push - thank you SO MUCH for your support! Please bring all gifts in to school by Wednesday morning.

We are calling on your kindness and generosity to help support families in need during the holiday season. Eric Harvie School will be supporting 6 families in Calgary this year, and each grade team has been assigned a specific family to sponsor. We have created links for each classroom’s Google Sheet sign-up gift tracking sheet as listed below.

Here is the link to access the spreadsheet:

You will see tabs along the bottom of the document for each grade team. If you find your student’s list is nearing completion please look at the other lists as some may not be. Thank you again for your support of Calgary families in need!

Kindergarten Registration & Guide

Registration for the 2026-27 school year will begin Monday, Jan. 12, 2026. Explore the Kindergarten Registration Guide for everything you need to get started.

Parent Reading Volunteers!

We are looking for parents who are able to come in and read one on one with students. Ideally we would love to have parents (or grandparents!) who are able to read between 2-5 days a week for a period of 20-40 minutes. No special experience required! We have had many people express interest already and are so thankful for your support!

We are hoping to start our parent reading program after the winter break the week of January 5th or 12th. The reading program can continue for a preset period of time or until the end of May.

If this is something you are interested in, please email Lesley Tait at lmtait@cbe.ab.ca

Thank you!

Lost and Found Alert

We donate the unclaimed items from our lost and found to a charity each December and June. Please ensure you check for lost items prior to the last day of school in December. We will also have the learners look through it with their classes as we try to help build more independence in keeping track of belongings…clearly a work in progress! Thank you!
