Eric Harvie School Enhancement Society is holding a Soupin' It Up fundraiser this month!
Soupin' It Up offers artisan dry soup mixes, rice dishes, breads, and more. All of their products are hand made locally in Calgary, Alberta. This fundraiser is to raise money for educational resources and experiences to enhance the learning of our students at Eric Harvie School.
Orders for this fundraiser will be accepted from January 6 - 20, 2025. Delivery will be the week of February 10th - 13th. The order information will be sent home with your child.
Orders can be paid online via electronic transfer. You can either use this link Soupin' it up fundraiser 2025 (https://forms.gle/BETMvF7um7CCaXHZ7) or by using the QR code on the attached document (your kids will be bringing this document home with them this week, too!)

PowerSchool Data Breach
(This message was already sent out to all families, but here it is again in case you missed it)
Dear CBE Families,
CBE was informed on Jan. 7 of a cybersecurity incident involving PowerSchool, the
system used for student information. We have been advised that student and
staff information may have been accessed. We are working with PowerSchool to
determine the scope of the incident and any potential impact on families and
staff.
After receiving this information, the CBE immediately limited third-party access to
PowerSchool and is engaging in further conversations to determine the extent of
the impact and next steps. PowerSchool has assured us that the incident is
contained and that they’ve strengthened their security measures.
PowerSchool has also notified law enforcement, locked down its system, and changed all
passwords.
While we work to determine what data may have been accessed, we can confirm that
PowerSchool does not store financial information. PowerSchool remains available
for school and family use.
Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
Questions may be directed to FOIP@cbe.ab.ca or the Office of Privacy
Commissioner at oipc@gov.ab.ca.

Organizing and Helping Out in the Maker Space We are looking for a couple of helpful adults to support the organization of our tools and other resources in the Maker Space. We have many tools and many organization systems but need some support in putting the tools and systems together! Please email Lesley at lmtait@cbe.ab.ca if you would be willing to donate an hour or two and we can work out a time that works for your schedule. Thank you! |
Please ensure you have contacted the office about having a valid Police clearance on file at the school prior to volunteering. Thank you for your time! |
Reminder - Alberta wide personal device policy
As we return back after winter break, we have noted an increase in the number of distractions occurring due to new smart watches or other technology that students brought to school with them. As a reminder, all personal devices are asked to be kept away for the day across all K-9 classrooms in Alberta.
For further information about this policy, please visit: CBE Personal Device Policy
Message about Hope
Just prior to the winter break, we sent home a message about Hope the bunny passing away. We recognize that this change in our school office will have a different impact on different children - some learners had more opportunities to connect with her than others depending on the supports they required over the years. We are sharing the message that Mrs. Zwack and Mr. Strand wrote below, and please let Mr. Strand know if you have any further questions or concerns.
It is with a very sad heart that I have to share the news with you all that our sweet Hope the school bunny has crossed the rainbow bridge. After a few weeks of illness and Mrs. Zwack's best efforts to work with the veterinarian, she passed this week. She was calm and peaceful, as she always was.
Hope has been an integral part of the Eric Harvie School Community since we opened the doors of this new building in January 2017. Her spot in the front office allowed all students to get to know her and she offered comfort and a calm space for anyone who needed a cuddle or a visit.
I know that telling your child(ren) about this may be very emotional as the children have come to see her as their bunny too. For some it may not be a problem and for others there may be tears and lots of big emotions. I am feeling all of those as well. If it helps, you could have your child draw a picture or write a note about something special about Hope and we will collect them in the office.
Our staff and amazing school community are all very grateful to Mrs. Zwack for caring for Hope, sharing Hope with us all and helping many learners to cope with anxious worries. Thank you for supporting Hope over the years and for seeing her value to your children.
