Upcoming Days of Significance - CBE Days of Significance Calendar

Great questions to ask your child about school!

“Tell me about the learning you did with Freestyle (or Flex) Friday.”

We had a second Friday of amazing, engaging learning where learners had a chance to try out something new and unique. We are planning to do two more sessions over the next couple of Fridays. K-3 learners get to try out something new each week, while the grade 4 and 5 learners become experts in a new area of learning. I know I had an awesome time with my robotics and 3D printing groups, and Mrs. Tait thoroughly enjoyed her pottery group!

“How is your hat for Finding Nemo coming along? What sea creature are you making?”

The majority of our classes have had a chance to get started on their costumes for our school-wide musical, Finding Nemo Kids. They are also working on learning the songs through their music classes. Many learners have taken on acting roles and have been coming in diligently for after-school or lunch time rehearsals.

“What have you been learning in your reading lately?”

Some of our grade 1 and 2 reading groups are on a bit of a pause while we reassess where each learner is at in their reading progression. They will still be working on reading throughout the day, but may focus more on finding the main idea or elements of the story in their reading tasks. Our grade 4 groups have divided out in to some smaller groups the past few weeks also in an effort to provide more direct instruction to keep building their reading skills.

Scooters and bikes at EHS

With spring weather now being more consistent, we have had a sharp increase in the number of students that are riding a scooter or bike to school. We are very excited to have so many kids being active on the way to school in the morning! We wanted to provide a few notes to families to help encourage and organize the use of scooters and bikes so that it can be a safe situation for all families:

  • Safety is obviously our primary concern with bikes or scooters at school:
    • Here is a great resource for parents: AHS Bike safety
    • We ask that you please not ride bikes and scooters on the school grounds, especially the front of the school and the compound in the back of the school. This is a major concern during the before and after school times.

  • Security of the bikes and scooters is our next focus:
    • Bikes and scooters need to be locked up to the bike racks that are available at the front of the school
    • We have been allowing scooters to be brought in to the school and left near the doorway of the school. This has become a safety issue as the number of scooters has increased - they are beginning to be a hazard for the hallway and doorway. We please ask that all scooters and bikes are brought to the front of the school and locked up to the racks.
    • With the increase in scooters, we are looking into a scooter specific rack or other solution. We do feel that with our current racks a chain type lock would be able to wrap around the scooter. Ms. Tait and myself are on supervision at the front of the school each morning - please have your child check in with us if they need any support.

Thank you for your support in ensuring that all students can get to school safely each day.

Nemo News!

Everyone should have received an email or two from Mrs. Coulson (jabaine@cbe.ab.ca) at some point talking about costumes and shows.  If you are not receiving these emails please check your junk mail folder.

Costumes

Your child will need a blue shirt (any shade) for the performances. We will collect these at school starting April 28th. You can turn a shirt inside out or backwards as well, it does not have to be new..

If your student has a specific part in the musical you should have received an email stating what your child needs to bring. We will start collecting those now please.

Show Information

Each class will be involved in two shows, a matinee and an evening show.  Your student will be asked to be at the school between 5 and 5:15 for the evening shows so that we can organize, get costumes on and start on time. Please let Mrs. Coulson know (jabaine@cbe.ab.ca) if you have any questions.  We will be looking for volunteers to help the classes and the cast members closer to the date.
