Eric Harvie School Literacy Night!!
EHS would like to invite you to an evening all about developing literacy skills in young learners! The evening will be full of information about how reading skills typically progress and how best to support your developing reader at home.
The evening will begin with some general information about supporting all readers and then we will split into two groups with one focusing on younger readers and one focusing on more advanced readers.
When: December 5th 6:00-7:00 pm
Where: Eric Harvie School
Please RSVP via sign up genius at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080D44AFAB28ABF94-53057412-parent#/
“Flakes” Choir Performance
December 12th is fast approaching and the singers have been working hard. This is the biggest choir that we have had at Eric Harvie School and we are very excited to share what we have been working on. There will be two performances for families to attend on Dec. 12th. The first one is in the afternoon at 1:30 and the second in the evening at 5:30. Because of the vast number of participants we ask that you only bring two people to each showing of the play. This will ensure that we do not go over fire code and that every singer will have space for someone to watch them at their shows. Thank you for your understanding.
An email will come home soon to choir students outlining instructions for the night of the performance as well as speaking roles, solos and costumes (don’t worry - they can wear whatever they want).
Lost and Found
- Our lost and found is reaching all time high levels! We are 99% sure that these items came from children that attend our school, so our goal is to get them back to families as much as possible.
 - Parents are welcome to come in to the school before or after school to take a look, or even better…empower your child to go look for their own lost stuff too!
 - We will also place the items out for families to look for items during conferences and during the choir performances the past couple weeks.
 - Please don’t forget to label items - this helps them to be returned to their owners much easier.
 - We will keep these items at the school until December 20 and then will be donating unclaimed items to a charity.

Supporting Families During the Holiday Season
  |
We are calling on your kindness and generosity to help support families in need during the holiday season. Eric Harvie School will be supporting 6 families in Calgary this year, and each grade team has been assigned a specific family to sponsor. We have created links for each classroom’s Google Sheet sign-up gift tracking sheet as listed below. Please read through the list of needs and wants for your family. Some families have many kids so please make sure to scroll along the spreadsheet. If you are in a position where you can support a family and see an item you would like to contribute, that is very appreciated. We are not looking to buy every item on the list but we do want our families to get some of their needs and wants. Please ensure that the items contributed are new. Steps:
Here are the links to access the Google Sheets for each classroom. If you find your student’s list is nearing completion please look at the other lists as some may not be: Grade 1 (this is a smaller family – if looking full please see kindergarten list) In the spirit of giving this holiday season, the staff at Eric Harvie School would like to thank EHS families in advance for their thoughts and contributions. Thank you for helping to make someone’s Christmas a little brighter |
Volunteer Opportunities:
We had a great suggestion at our latest EHS School Council Meeting to create an area where we list current and upcoming volunteer opportunities all in one location. Here is the inaugural edition:
Fun Snack Volunteer opportunities Various Thursday mornings at around 10:00 am - 12:30 pm
 SNACK: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080D44AFAB28ABF94-51750588-funsnack LUNCH: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080D44AFAB28ABF94-51750894-funlunch |
Volunteer Reading support opportunities We are looking for parents who are able to come in and read with students. Ideally we would love to have parents who are able to read between 2-5 days a week for a period of 20-40 minutes. If this is something you are interested in, please email Lesley Tait at lmtait@cbe.ab.ca |
Please ensure you have contacted the office about having a valid Police clearance on file at the school prior to volunteering. Thank you for your time! |
