Truth and Reconciliation Commitment at Eric Harvie School

We are committed to acknowledging and supporting the implementation of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission 94 Calls to Action specific to education. Our school, along with all CBE schools, made a Truth and Reconciliation Commitment to Action. Today we renewed our commitment by reviewing our progress from our goal last year and setting a new commitment for the year ahead.

We are looking forward to living this commitment to learning more deeply about the core Indigenous worldview perspectives of respect and reciprocity together with our whole learning community. In the fall we will help share how this values will help to shape our vision for learning for the school year.

EHS TRC Commitment 2025-26

Staffing Updates:

We would like to share with the school community the full list of staff that are moving on to new adventures next year. We are very thankful for all of their hard work this year and throughout their time at EHS:

Tessa Arnett - Grade 3 temporary position

Ginger Brie-DeBoni - Literacy and Numeracy Intervention (plus Grade 4 to start the year!)

Zainab Petiwala - Grade 1 temporary position

Laura Hall - Grade 3 and Learning Leader position

Cassandra Davis - Grade 4 temporary position

Our learners will have an opportunity to wish “Farewell for now, Friend!” to all of our staff that are moving on to new adventures during our year-end assembly. We are so grateful for their hard work and support of our learners during their time at Eric Harvie School.

EHS Gr 1-5 Swimming Lessons

We had an awesome experience this past week with our swimming lessons! It was amazing to see our learners take on a different kind of challenge and to persevere through learning new skills.

This great learning experience would not have been possible without the amazing outpouring of volunteer support! We had SO MANY parents that gave SO MUCH of their time to help make this activity possible. From parents that carved out a couple of hours from their schedule to parents that were on breaks from more shift-style roles that had multiple days available it was amazing to have so many parents to help ensure we could get everyone to the pool, in the pool and changed to get ready to head home…these parts seemed like the most challenging at times!

We are planning to continue with this yearly activity again next year and hope that it helps to build more confident swimmers and learners for the summer ahead!

Sports Day Sign Up

The morning of Tuesday, June 24th will be Sports Day at Eric Harvie and we are looking for volunteers to help us out with running some fun stations. This is always a great event to come and enjoy having fun with all the amazing learners at Eric Harvie School! The main event will be in the morning with AM Kindergarten taking part. We will also run some of the stations as a special event for the PM Kindergarten classes in the afternoon also. If you’re able to help out please click the following link. Thank you!!

Grade 5 Learner Farewell

We are excited to celebrate our grade 5 learners moving on to their next learning adventures in middle school next year! The perspective that our school takes on this celebration is that this is a chance for the young people that have built many memories together to be able to have one last fun memory of their time at EHS. We consider the celebration to be a different life event than a true graduation - this is a relatively small achievement for all the amazing paths of learning that they will embark on in the future! As such, this is not an event with a formal ceremony and not an event that we invite parents to attend. We organize a few different activities, a fun lunch, and time for the kids to hang out together and sign autograph books. We will also be including a “photo-booth” type of activity where the learners will be able to get some candid photos with their classmates and we have been able to organize a way that these photos can be shared with families also.

Transportation Updates

The legislation modified the transportation eligibility distance and how it is calculated. Transportation eligibility will now be measured by driving distance from your home to the front door of the school:

  • 1.6 km for students in kindergarten - Grade 6

To find your school’s map, visit CBE’s Find a School Tool and follow these instructions:

  • Search by School Name
  • Then under School Profile - click on the school name
    • Scroll down to the map that shows the walk zones

Transportation Registration Begins May 21

All students who are eligible for yellow school bus transportation would have received an email detailing how to register and proposed fees for 2025-26.

If you have any questions, contact Josie Cesario at the school office.
